British tabloids address Meghan Markle’s alleged “unbelievable deal or no deal” ultimatum.
More on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s departure from the United Kingdom was revealed in an Express.co.uk article.
Meghan said Buckingham Palace “dictated” the particulars of her and Prince Harry’s first son’s birth certificate, according to the newspaper.
Meghan claimed the Palace coerced her to change her given name “Rachel Meghan” a month after her son Archie was born.
According to the paper, the Duchess of Sussex was annoyed by the Royal Family’s belief that she preferred her child’s birth certificate to be “nameless.”
During the documentary ‘Harry & Meghan: The Next Step,’ royal photographer Arthur Edwards said Meghan, in fact, had broadcast her ultimatum to the Queen in the public eye.
He explained “A senior member of the Royal Family deciding to resign and relocate to another country is a serious matter.
“Meghan Markle worked on the game show Deal or No Deal a some years back.
“Today, she’s doing a deal or no deal with the Queen of England over a speakerphone,” Arthur said.
Queen Elizabeth’s Confidants Expose ‘Secret Feud’ With Meghan Markle Before Her Death
Despite Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s frequent criticisms of the royal family, Queen Elizabeth II remained a rare exception.
“The queen has always been wonderful to me,” Meghan once said warmly, describing her as “welcoming and kind.” Harry, too, acknowledged a close bond with his grandmother, blaming palace aides — not Elizabeth — for how poorly Meghan was treated by the Firm.
During his explosive CBS interview in 2021, Harry praised his “Granny” as principled and caring, claiming she was surrounded by manipulative advisors who steered her with “bad advice.”
But more than two years after Queen Elizabeth’s death at age 96, those close to her have begun shedding light on how she really felt about Meghan.
“There was tension right from the start,” a source tells In Touch. “Because Meghan and Harry kept defying the queen’s wishes in such dramatic ways, their relationship was beyond repair by the time she passed.”
Since then, insiders have come forward in various tell-all books and interviews to share details of the hidden rift, aiming to expose “the truth about Meghan.”
Signs of discord appeared even before Meghan and Harry’s 2018 wedding. In Spare, Harry recalls being invited to Buckingham Palace by the queen to view the royal jewel collection.
“Granny said to Meg, so sweetly, ‘Tiaras suit you,’” he wrote. After choosing a headpiece, the queen suggested a rehearsal with it ahead of the ceremony.
But afterward, Harry claimed they couldn’t get in touch with the queen’s dresser, Angela Kelly.
“She was being difficult, clearly,” he wrote. “I thought about going to Granny — but I wasn’t sure who she’d support if it turned into a confrontation.”
Insiders Believe the Queen Would Have Backed Her Dresser
According to palace sources, the queen likely would’ve stood by Angela.
Harry’s “meltdowns” during wedding preparations — including his infamous outburst, “What Meghan wants, Meghan gets!” — made headlines and reportedly prompted a rare rebuke from the queen.
And the tiara wasn’t the only issue. Behind the scenes, Harry blamed royal insiders for questioning whether it was appropriate for a divorcée to wear a veil.
Yet royal biographer Tom Bower revealed in his book Revenge that one of those skeptics was actually the queen herself. Ingrid Seward noted another concern in her book My Mother and I.
“She confided to Lady Elizabeth Anson that Meghan’s Givenchy gown was ‘too white,’” Seward wrote.
The queen reportedly felt that such a pristine look wasn’t suitable for a divorcée remarrying in church. She was also uneasy about Prince Charles walking Meghan down the aisle in her father’s absence.
Elizabeth’s Allies Reveal Her Private Concerns About Meghan
Prince Philip also expressed doubts. “He advised Elizabeth to be careful,” Seward wrote, citing Meghan’s resemblance to Wallis Simpson, the American divorcée whose relationship led Edward VIII to abdicate.
While Meghan “was very good at charming the queen,” Seward claimed, Elizabeth eventually saw through the facade. “When things began falling apart, she was distressed.
In the end, she felt like many others: ‘What do they want? They already have everything, but it’s never enough.’”
The Queen Was Deeply Hurt Over the Naming of ‘Lilibet’
The couple’s decision to step back from royal duties — dubbed “Megxit” — was a major blow.
“The queen felt it was heartless for Meghan to make Harry choose between her and his family, and resented their attempt to define their own royal roles,” says the source.
The CBS interview made things worse. “Implying the family was racist toward Meghan crossed a line.”
But royal commentator Robert Hardman says the final breaking point came when the couple named their daughter, born in June 2021, “Lilibet,” the queen’s own childhood nickname. One palace staffer recalled that Elizabeth II was “as furious as I’d ever seen her” after hearing they’d claimed she approved the name.
In The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy, Hardman reveals she allegedly told aides, “I don’t own the palaces, I don’t own the paintings — the only thing I own is my name. And now they’ve taken that.”
While the palace issued a polite statement of congratulations, the queen notably avoided confirming she had given permission. “That,” one insider said, “was just another one of their lies.”
