David Beckham gets emotional after being knighted by King Charles

David Beckham experienced an unforgettable moment on November 4, as he received his knighthood from King Charles at Windsor Castle.

This significant occasion recognized Beckham’s impressive contributions to both soccer and charitable work, leaving the 50-year-old football legend deeply moved.

The investiture ceremony was a familial affair, with Beckham’s parents, Ted and Sandra, proudly in attendance to witness the honor.

As King Charles presided over the event, Beckham reflected on the importance of this recognition, which celebrates his decades of dedication to the sport and his humanitarian efforts.

Beckham’s influence extends beyond the soccer pitch.

He was instrumental in bringing the 2012 Olympics to London and has been actively involved with UNICEF since 2005.

In 2015, a fund bearing his name was established, commemorating ten years of collaboration with the organization, further cementing his legacy in philanthropy.

“This week has been incredibly emotional,” Beckham shared with PEOPLE.

“It wasn’t nerves that got to me; it was just the weight of the moment.

This honor means the world to me and my family.”

He described the day as unforgettable, saying it’s a memory he will hold dear forever.

In 2024, Beckham’s role will expand as he becomes an ambassador for King Charles’ foundation, which focuses on educational programs and environmental initiatives aimed at getting youth more engaged with nature and community efforts across the UK.

Having a deep respect for the monarchy, Beckham made headlines in 2022 when he stood in line for over 12 hours to pay his respects to Queen Elizabeth II as she lay in state after her passing.

“I’m incredibly patriotic,” he emphasized.

“My country means everything to me, and the monarchy holds great significance in my family’s life.”

King Charles, who took the throne in September 2022, was particularly taken with Beckham’s attire, which reflected a blend of tradition and modern style.

Beckham recalled, “He was quite impressed with my suit.

He is the best-dressed man I know, and I’ve taken inspiration from his looks for years.

My wife, Victoria, designed this one.”

Victoria Beckham, herself recognized with an OBE in 2017 for her contributions to fashion, crafted the morning suit David wore, drawing from classic images of King Charles, which created a distinctive yet respectful appearance for the ceremony.
