Will Prince William finally strip Meghan and Harry of their royal titles?

The conversation surrounding Meghan Markle this year has sparked quite the debate.

As she reminded viewers on her Netflix series, she’s now known as the Duchess of Sussex.

Interestingly, it appears Prince William has taken note of this.

Reports suggest he is furious at the notion of Meghan privately using the HRH title—Her Royal Highness—and is contemplating the idea of revoking both Harry and Meghan’s titles when he ascends to the throne.

Is it time for Peter Morgan to draft another season of The Crown?

Just recently, Meghan posted a tweet from Yulia Svyrydenko, Ukraine’s first deputy prime minister, on her Instagram Story.

This tweet thanked Meghan and her family for their support, addressing her as “Your Royal Highness.” While one might consider this a casual exchange, it didn’t sit well with William, who seemingly has had enough of such proclamations.

Reportedly, a close friend of King Charles voiced frustrations about Meghan’s involvement, calling it “outrageous” and expressing disbelief that the couple continues to fuel the flames of royal discontent.

The situation took a turn for the worse following Meghan’s appearance on Jamie Kern Lima’s podcast.

During their chat, Lima shared a charming story about Meghan gifting her a basket filled with ice cream and homemade strawberry sauce.

However, what raised eyebrows was the card that accompanied this gesture, which read, “With the Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex.” Why does this matter?

It traces back to 2020 when Harry and Meghan reached an agreement with the late Queen Elizabeth about stepping away from royal duties.

Initially, their titles were granted in 2018 when they tied the knot.

According to the Buckingham Palace statement at the time, part of their departure agreement specified that they would not utilize their HRH titles since they were no longer acting members of the royal family.

While Harry and Meghan abstain from using their HRH titles in public or commercial contexts, certain instances hint otherwise and provoke outrage among royal circles.

Sources close to the situation reveal that while King Charles seems reluctant to confront the issue head-on, William is brimming with indignation.

A former courtier noted that William views Harry and Meghan’s actions as a deep betrayal, claiming they exploit royal affiliation for their own gain.

Although it might sound extreme to react strongly over private title usage, it’s crucial to realize how deeply these matters impact the royal family’s integrity.

A friend of Prince William divulged that his irritation has reached such heights that he is already contemplating the removal of their titles once he becomes king.

The sentiment is that Meghan’s usage of HRH demonstrates King Charles’s perceived weakness, and a definitive stance will be taken by William when he assumes the crown.

“A way will be found,” they declared, hinting that the titles will be stripped, regardless of public opinion.

However, there’s a layer of complexity to this debate.

Attempting to revoke a royal title isn’t straightforward.

The established laws on the matter are nebulous, and while many believe it should be in the monarch’s hands, history shows that such a move has seldom been attempted.

Typically, the loss of a title happens only upon marital separation from the royal family.

In 2022, a legislative proposal was introduced in Parliament to empower the monarch to remove titles, yet it has stalled without further progress.

Nevertheless, if this frustration on William’s part is genuine, he might well choose to assert his will once he dons the royal crown.

It could mean relegating Harry and Meghan to a quieter life in Montecito, focusing solely on their creative ventures and personal pursuits.

But let’s face it—they’ll manage just fine regardless of the titles.
