In a recent episode of Meghan Markle’s Netflix show, “With Love, Meghan Holiday Celebration,” Prince Harry found himself in a rather uncomfortable spot.
You might say he was served a dish far from royal standards — a salad loaded with all the ingredients he simply can’t stand.
The light-hearted moment, which aired recently, had viewers cringing and chuckling in equal measure.
During the filming, Harry, at 41, wandered into the kitchen where Meghan and renowned chef Tom Colicchio teamed up on a festive dish.
However, it soon became apparent that this culinary creation would be anything but pleasing for the prince.
The salad, intended as a celebration of holiday flavors, featured beetroots — or ‘beetroot’ as Harry might appropriately call them — among other notorious ingredients.
As Colicchio, 63, enthusiastically discussed the recipe’s origins, he mentioned that it was a family heirloom passed down from his grandfather.
Bright and bold, the salad boasted a medley of red onion, celery, artichoke hearts, cherry peppers, fennel, black olives, anchovies, parsley, and garlic.
It looked cheerful but, for Harry, it was a culinary horror story waiting to unfold.
Amidst the kitchen banter, Markle couldn’t help but share a wink with Colicchio.
“Can I tell you why I’m chuckling?” she remarked.
With a touch of humor, she highlighted how often she had to prepare meals catered to her husband’s aversions instead of her own tastes.
Harry, apparently not a fan of beets, black olives, and various pickled delights, was set to experience a flavor fiasco like no other.
Markle confessed, “If I listed out the ingredients my husband hates, it would be this exact salad.” Her excitement about the dish, in stark contrast to Harry’s visible dread, made the scene even more comical.
She enthused about how long it had been since she had enjoyed such a medley, regarding it as a culinary treasure.
Upon finally addressing the salad, a mixture of reluctance and humor swept over Harry’s face.
“Wow, that’s like the anti-salad,” he remarked with a nervous chuckle, revealing just how misplaced that bowl of greens was in the eyes of the prince.
Chef Colicchio chimed in with a playful jab, “Everything you hate!”
Harry’s response, accompanied by a laugh, reflected his true feelings, “You must have known I was coming.” This humorous exchange showcased their playful dynamic, with Harry maintaining his charm even in a less-than-pleasing culinary moment.
Later, Harry treated himself to a bowl of gumbo, which he had eagerly approached upon smelling its savory aroma wafting through the air.
Meghan explained the familial roots of her mother’s gumbo, proudly sharing that it was a cherished recipe from Tennessee.
The mere mention of it was enough to lift Harry’s spirits as he entered the kitchen, momentarily forgetting about the dreaded salad.
However, he soon found himself grappling with the salad again, admitting, “Me and the salad, we’re having like this sort of eye-off.” His reluctance to taste the vibrant concoction was palpable, as he humorously noted that it comprised nearly everything he dislikes.
“Amazing how there’s not many things in the world that I don’t like, and they’re all in one bowl,” he joked, exhibiting a mix of disbelief and amusement.
While his experience with the salad was laughably tragic, the gumbo was a different story altogether.
After sampling Meghan’s culinary creation, Harry couldn’t contain his delight, though he carefully noted it didn’t quite measure up to the original recipe made by Meghan’s mom.
“It is delicious — I’m not sure it’s as good as your mom’s, but it’s certainly close,” he conceded, bringing a sparkle to Meghan’s eyes.
This playful kitchen moment not only highlighted Harry’s humorous approach to food but also exemplified the couple’s chemistry on-screen.
From culinary highs to comedic lows, this episode captures the essence of family traditions during the festive season, serving up laughter with a side of endearing chaos.
