Meghan Markle faces $10 million lawsuit threat over dangerous recipe

In a surprising twist that has drawn considerable attention, Meghan Markle is confronting a potential lawsuit that could amount to $10 million.

The controversy erupted following a claim made by a Maryland resident who alleges that a bath salts recipe shared by the Duchess on her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, resulted in severe injuries.

The woman at the center of this legal storm, Robin Patrick, asserts that her use of Meghan’s bath salts led to “catastrophic burns.”

According to her, she followed the recipe—which includes Epsom salt, various essential oils, and dried botanicals—precisely as demonstrated in the show, which premiered on March 4.

Patrick has even provided images of her injuries to support her case.

Patrick, who has diabetes, explained her distressing experience, stating that the mixture caused her “significant pain and cosmetic distress.” The medical community has expressed caution regarding people with diabetes and the use of bath salts, due to their often sensitive skin and risk of developing ulcers.

In her detailed correspondence, Patrick outlined her intention to sue not only Meghan but also the production company, Netflix, and Archewell Productions for a total of $10 million in punitive damages.

Additionally, she is seeking $75,000 to cover medical expenses linked to her alleged injuries.

Elaborating on her ordeal, Patrick described her initial use of the bath salts, which began with a “mild tingling sensation.” However, as she soaked, she claims to have experienced increasing discomfort, which compelled her to exit the tub and analyze the water mixture.

Alarmingly, she reported additional burning sensations after stirring the bathwater.

Her claims took a darker turn as she recounted how, after using Gold Bond lotion and lidocaine sprays to alleviate the pain, she suffered intense burning sensations during a shower, leading to the development of ulcer-like injuries on her skin.

In a formal response from Intellectual Property Corporation’s lawyer Cameron Stracher, the narrative shifted.

Stracher emphasized that the claims made by Patrick lacked a legal foundation.

He noted that neither Meghan nor the other involved parties had a “duty of care” toward her, as there existed no special legal relationship, thus making it improbable for her case to stand.

Stracher further contended that there is nothing inherently dangerous about the combination of ingredients in the bath salt recipe.

He argued that the recipe does not pose a “clear and present danger” to the public, underlining that any negligence claim would likely be dismissed in court.

To strengthen his argument, Stracher highlighted that Patrick’s injuries might likely stem from her pre-existing health issues rather than the bath salts themselves.

He stated that Epsom salts are generally cautioned against for individuals with diabetes unless specifically recommended by a healthcare provider.

Despite Patrick voicing her belief that Meghan should have issued warnings regarding the risks associated with her recipe, Stracher countered that it was unreasonable to assume any liability given that the instructions on the Epsom salt packaging were disregarded.

Meghan’s show features her culinary endeavors, where she shares cooking tips and wellness advice from her home in Montecito, California, often accompanied by celebrity guests.

The segment featuring the bath salts was originally intended to showcase creative and calming wellness gifts.

The unfolding lawsuit serves as a reminder of the perils celebrities face when sharing personal recipes or wellness advice, especially when the audience includes individuals with specific health conditions.

As Patrick herself has indicated, she is open to resolving the issue amicably, hoping for a financial settlement without needing to pursue further legal action.

As debates ensue regarding safety and accountability in sharing information, this incident poses critical questions about the responsibilities of public figures and the expectations of their audiences.
